Going it alone

I just came back from the gym and for the first time I tried to weight train by myself. Whenever I have gone before it was with a buddy of mine who knows what he is doing. This time I was by myself and I felt pretty useless.

Before I went I googled for some weight training resources and came up with not very much, but I did find one sight that seemed pretty promising. But by the time I had gotten to the gym I had forgotten most of what I had read and I'm pretty sure I looked like a fool.

It didn't help matters that I was surrounded by numerous people who were quite buff, and quite obviously knew what they were doing (these were they types who write down stuff as they worked out).

Anyway, enough of that. I weighed myself again today and I was down to 236. That means in the past week I've lost two pounds, and that I have now lost two pounds in total.

That's pretty encouraging, now lets hope I can keep the momentum.

The Tely 10 is a great goal. You'll look forward to it (and fear it) all summer.
I ran my first tely 10 last summer (I had lost 40 lbs leading up to it). It was intense, difficult and felt terrific. It look me a little over an hour and a half but I ran every step.
Your goals are within reach, you just have to keep chipping away at them! I know how you must feel, having gone through the same thing myself. You have the ball rolling and you'll be surprised how much better you feel as your capacity for fitness increases. The workouts may become more about working out, feeling good and sweating rather than the initial drive to loose weight.
If you have a day when you're discouraged don't let it throw you off - it's only a bump in the road, so to speak.
Your body will very likely resist you at first and you might feel like your struggle is going nowhere but stick with it! You can do it and you'll feel better for it! Keep in mind that after 10 miles, you'll be tired of running but once you see the finish line it'll all be worth it.
Good luck!!
